Kwara State House of Assembly Committee on Tertiary Education has been tasked to investigate the abandoned Ilesha-Baruba and Osi satellite campuses of Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete.

This followed a Matter of General Public Importance raised by a lawmaker representing Okuta-Yashikira constituency, Muhammed Baba-Salihu, titled, “Need for Speedy Completion of Baruten and Ekiti Satellite Campuses of Kwara State University, Malete” during Wednesday plenary.

The lawmaker noted that billions of naira have been expended on the two satellite campuses without commensurate development since the establishment of the state university 10 years ago.

Baba-Salihu said that the structures of the satellite campuses on the ground in the Baruten and Ekiti local governments are less than 30 per cent completion.

Other lawmakers, who spoke on the matter, expressed concern over the abandonment of the two satellite campuses of the state university in Ilesha-Babaruba and Osi and advocated the need for contractors handling the projects to be summoned for questioning.

Speaker of the House, Engineer Yakubu Danlad-Salihu, therefore, charged the House Committee on Tertiary Education to be thorough in its investigation and report back to the House in two weeks.
